Lautoka (Fiji) basketball draws interest
Lautoka Basketball has been overwhelmed with the response from the clubs during its local league competition.
With so many teams prepared to play, the Lautoka association will hold a tournament on December 5 with teams from 3 sub regions around Lautoka. The tournament will serve as a preview to the National Club Championship which will be held in the Sugar City on December 12.
LBA official Simi Cagilaba said the three areas of Kubuna, Tovata and Burebasaga will be represented during the tournament, with each area entering two teams in the competition.
"This is the first time we are holding a regional tournament. The three regions will participate in the event, and we have also allocated a spot for Rotuma.
"This tournament will set the platform for the National Club Championship which will be played a week later."
The LBA and Basketball Fiji are inviting interested teams to the National Club Championship on December 12. Clubs from Raiwaqa and Suva have shown interest in the tournament scheduled for December.
The organisers are eyeing a 24 team tournament with 16 men's teams and eight women's teams.
