Congratulations to FIBA Europe, the sister organisation to FIBA Oceania who last week achieved a significant milestone in their impressive growth since formation in 2002, by officially opening their new headquarters.

FIBA President Bob Elphinston, FIBA Secretary General Emeritus Boris Stankovic, FIBA Treasurer Manfred Stroher and head of the FIBA Study Centre Aldo Vitale were on hand to join with representatives of other significant European sports including football, volleyball, handball and the professional Basketball Leagues of Europe, to see the Mayor of Munich and the FIBA Europe President, George Vassilakopoulos cut the ceremonial ribbon to declare the building open.

From later this month FIBA Europe will call Ismaninger Str. 21 in the exclusive Munich district of Bogenhausen the headquaters of European basketball.

Last weekend's ceremony was not just a move to another office. The new offices will be owned by and have been refurbished by FIBA Europe and is a symbol of the meteoric rise of the organisation from a fresh start, with no assets a little over 7 years ago, to being the first of the five FIBA zones to be its own landlord and to have the security of permanent tenancy in a building it can now make its own.

On the day of the opening, FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin remarked "We started nearly eight years ago with very little to call our own and this beautiful building is a testament to how far we have come."

FIBA Oceania extends its warmest congratulations to FIBA Europe and hopes that it s new home will help it achieve its goal of making basketball the number one sport in Europe.
