Goods given out in Samoa

$80,000 worth of donated basketball goods have been handed out to Samoa tsunami victims.

Thanks to the enormous generosity of basketball organisations in Australia, FIBA Oceania was able to gather together over $80,000.00 worth of donations for those effected by the tsunami in Samoa late last year.

The goods were sent to the Samoan Basketball Federation onboard an Australian naval ship, and once cleared by authorities, have been distributed around the island.

The first delivery was done as a combined sports day, with basketball, athletics and football coming together to hand out donated goods.

Following that, the Samoan Basketball Federation executive members travelled to Vaovai, Malaemalu and Salani to hand out goods to basketball clubs and schools.  Although no one is living in Vaovai, having moved inland to re-establish their homes, the federation took some children to the affected area for the hand over of goods.

Plans are in hand to continue the delivery of the remaining goods in February.

The Samoan Basketball community would like to pass on their sincere thanks to those Australian organisations who assisted in the donation of goods.
