After 40 years a FIBA Headquarters will start to take shape.
FIBA Congress in 1968 decided FIBA should build its own headquarters. Later this year the soil will turn on the commencement of the new building.
More than 40 years ago the FIBA Congress approved the concept of FIBA acquiring its own headquarters. In 2002 FIBA relocated its headquarters from Munich to Geneva to allow it to do just that. In 2008 the Central Board approved the launch of a design competition for the new headquarters. In December 2009 the Central Board approved the concept designs submitted by the winning bidder Luscher Group. It is anticipated that site works will commence in 2010 and that by 2013 FIBA will be in its new building close to Lake Geneva at Mies. Information about the proposed headquarters can be found at:

The building design takes its inspiration from the "hands on the ball" of the FIBA logo and has five wings to allow maximum exposure to Lake Geneva. The basketball net is also reflected in the engineering support structures designed to maximise the visibility from inside and outside the building. The designers also claim that the extensive use of glass reflects FIBA’s desire to be a transparent organisation.
