Basketball Federations invited to nominate outstanding candidates for Pacific Sports Awards
The Pacific Games Association will hold the 4th Annual Pacific Sports Awards in October 2012. Basketball Federations are invited to nominate for these prestigious awards.
Basketball Fiji's NBDO Laisiasa Puamau won the Pacific Sports Administrator of the Year Award in 2011, and FIBA Oceania encourages all Basketball Federations in the zone to nominate people from their Federation for the 2012 awards. Awards are open for players, coaches, referees and administrators.
Basketball Federations must nominate their candidates to their Pacific Games Association, so please check with your PGA for the closing date for local nominations. Each PGA will determine their nomination for the Pacific wide awards.
It would be terrific to see basketball represented at the Awards again, so please consider outstanding performances by your members for the period 1st July 2011 to 30th June 2012, including the period of the New Caledonia 2011 Pacific Games, amongst other events.
The Awards are open to all 22 PGAs and the sports from which nominations may come are those in Article 22.1 and 22.2 of the Charter.
Nominations using the attached form (click here for the form) should be sent to your country PGA as soon as possible.
The nomination must be accompanied by a maximum 250 word document in support of the nomination, and where possible an electronic photograph.
If the nomination from the Basketball Federation is put forward as the best in your country, a judging panel from amongst the Council membership will be instructed to vote on the basis of selecting the most meritorious international performance or contribution.
One nomination per PGA per award category:
o Outstanding Sports Administrator of the Year
o Outstanding Coach of the Year
o Outstanding Technical Official of the Year
o Outstanding Junior Athlete of the Year (18 or under at time of close of nominations)
o Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year
o Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year
o Outstanding Team of the Year (can include pairs, triples, relays, team medal winners)
Last year, a majority of PGAs did not nominate any candidates, so please support your basketball players, coaches, administrators and officials by nominating your worthy candidates to your PGA.
